People say that during their journey back to Ayodhya, Lord Ram, Sita, and Laxman reached Rishikesh. But the Ganga was wild and uncrossable.
Laxman, known for his bravery, crossed the river using a jute rope bridge. Yes, a simple rope stretched across the mighty Ganga!
That very act turned the spot into a sacred site. Devotees believe Laxman's faith and courage made this place divine.
A jute bridge was built in 1889. But it was destroyed in the 1924 floods. In 1929, a 284 foot-long iron suspension bridge was built by the British. It became a symbol of faith
For years, travellers and pilgrims walked across it, soaking in the views of the Ganga and the Himalayas. But the bridge was closed in 2019 due to safety concerns.
