The Jaisalmer Desert Festival has a fascinating story behind its origins, one that has been passed down through generations. According to locals, Lord Krishna once predicted that a future leader from the Yadav community would establish a kingdom on the Trikuta Hill. Centuries later, in 1196, Rawal Jaiswal, thought to be a descendant of the Yadav community, founded the kingdom of Jaisalmer.

To celebrate this remarkable event, the people of Jaisalmer began organizing special events and festivities throughout the kingdom. When word got around that an ancient prediction had come true, these joyful celebrations turned into a cherished tradition. Today, this tradition continues with the Jaisalmer Desert Festival, held every February.

Jaisalmer doesn't have its own airport. The nearest one is in Jodhpur, which is about 300 kilometers away. You can catch flights from major Indian cities to Jodhpur. When you get to Jodhpur, you can either hire a private cab or take a local or express train to reach Jaisalmer.

By Rail

It's easy to find direct trains to Jaisalmer, and the good thing is, the train station is right in the city center. So, when you get there, you can easily find an auto-rickshaw or taxi.

By Road

Jaisalmer is well-connected by road to all major Indian cities. You can either take a state-owned bus, a luxury coach, a sleeper AC bus or hire a private taxi to get to the city.
