Weather Conditions To Expect: 

Dehradun’s weath er is something that will catch your eye and make you fall in love with it. Unpredictable at times but mostly pleasant and soothing, you can expect the weather and temperature to be moderate throughout the year.

Summer 

Summer in Dehradun is usually between March to June and the temperature ranges approximately between 13° C to 35° C. If you are coming from parts of the country and world where there is extreme temperature during the hot months then a trip to Dehradun would be perfect for you in summer. 

Monsoon 

With mild to medium rainfall, Dehradun and its greenery find a new vibrancy and life during monsoon. You can expect the temperature to be anywhere between 20°C to 32°C in July, August and September. 

Winter 

Late November to February is considered winter for Dehradun and the average temperature is approximately 3° C to 22° C. You must carry a set of warm clothing owing to the cold weather in winter. If you are planning a romantic getaway then we would suggest you visit Dehradun between November to February. 

How To Reach Dehradun

By air:  

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, located at a distance of approximately 20 km from the Dehradun city centre. You can easily find a cab to drive you to the town. It will hardly take you half an hour or so from the airport to the Dehradun city centre in the hired taxi. 

By train:  

Dehradun, being the capital city of Uttarakhand, is well connected to all the major cities of the country through the railway. You can book yourself a train to Dehradun for the trip. 

 By bus:  

It is up to you whether you want to travel through the state transport buses or private AC buses. The bus depot is located near Dehradun railway station and it is well connected to all the major cities with a frequent and efficient bus system. 

 By car: 

If you are travelling to Dehradun in your private vehicle you can take NH 58 and 72 if you’re coming from Delhi. It is well connected through roads to all the major cities so you need not worry whether you are travelling from Chandigarh or Lucknow.

Explore The Pahadi Culture 

Part of the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, people in Dehradun speak majorly Garhwali, Gorkhali, Punjabi, Sindhi, Kumaoni, Urdu, English and Hindi. You can experience the authentic pahadi culture through various food items like Singal, Aloo Ke Gutke, Gahat Ki Dal, Jhangora Ki Kheer, Kumaoni Raita, Sani Hui Muli, Kandalee Ka Saag, Singodi, Kaafli, Arsa, Bal Mithai, Kulath Phanu, Gulgula, Rus, Chicken Korma, Kesar Halwa, Sei, Bhatt, Tibetan Momos, etc. You can even witness numerous fairs that happen throughout the year around Dehradun where you will be exposed to not only the traditional arts and crafts but also the traditional attire of the Garhwali people. It makes for a unique experience to add to your travel scrapbook. 

Seek Your Thrill 

There is something about mountains which brings a fresh breath of thrill to the whole experience of travelling. Since Dehradun is a hilly region you can expect adrenaline-inducing and adventurous activities readily trying their best to get your attention. From camping to paragliding, you are at liberty to choose your poison. Be rest assured that you will have lots and lots of fun. The Dehradun terrain offers an exploration through the various trekking trails. Expect to see the best of the views as you gear up for the adventure and reach Har Ki Dun. Magical Waters (and Caves!) 

Among the most iconic places in Dehradun is the Sahastradhara waterfall. If you translate it into English, it means "thousandfold spring". The multiple cascading waterfalls are a beautiful sight to behold, especially during monsoon months as the flow becomes stronger and louder. It is considered to have healing properties owing to the presence of Sulphur in the water. An absolute not-to-miss destination is Robber's Cave. This 600 meters long cave has a river flowing inside it along with a 10-meter-high waterfall. The view is mesmerizing and thrilling. You even take a tour down Tiger Falls - an untouched gem of nature. 

Taste The Diversity 

Get a closer insight into the daily life and beliefs of the locals and their culture through the various places of worship. The diversity is evident as you visit Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple which is carved out in a cave and then step into the peaceful ambience of one of the largest Buddhist monasteries known as Mindrolling Monastery. The architecture tells you the stories of the deities. It is heartwarming to see the numerous religious and cultural groups blending into each other so effortlessly. 

Get Closer To Nature 

Dehradun will expose you to a life that is one with nature. The rich wildlife in terms of animals, plants and vegetation gives a perfect detox from city life. You can opt for a jungle safari at Rajaji National Park to spot elephants, tigers, wild boar and over 400 types of birds among many others. The serenity and tranquillity can be enjoyed with a walk in the Forest Research Institute or the woods of Dehradun. There are plenty of options to get closer to nature.
