Har Ki Dun is a popular trekking destination situated at an altitude of approximately 3,566 metres above sea level and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense forests. The trek to Har Ki Dun starts from the small village of Sankri, which is approx. 200 Kms from Dehradun. The trek is approximately 47 Kms long and takes about 5-6 days to complete. It passes through some of the most scenic landscapes in the region, including dense forests, gushing rivers, and picturesque meadows.

According to legend, Goddess Santala appeared to a local shepherd and asked him to build a temple in her honour. The shepherd then built the temple on the hilltop, and since then, the temple has been considered a sacred place of worship.

The centre is a part of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) and aims to promote science education and popularise science among the general public, especially children. It has several exhibits and interactive displays, which showcase various scientific principles and concepts.
